My Story

I am a reporter for The Wall Street Journal, where I cover the topic of financial distress, focusing on companies facing major financial and legal challenges. Since the onset of the coronavirus, I have been chronicling the economic disruption caused by the pandemic.
I live with my wife Heslat in East Flatbush, Brooklyn. I met her in Shanghai, where I lived for four years after graduating from Kenyon College in Ohio. In Shanghai, I began my career as a journalist by writing for local Chinese newspapers. I later joined a financial intelligence firm that is now known as Acuris, where I covered international trade and intellectual property issues. I moved to New York in 2014, and began covering credit defaults and debt restructuring. I started at WSJ in July 2019. My work has also been featured in publications including the Financial Times, Forbes, and the China Economic Review.
